Iran increases wheat exports in the reporting period

According to the report of world experts, in the period from March 21, 2017 to January 20, 2018 Iran increased the export of wheat. The total figures reached 236,000 tons in the amount of $ 84 million. Compared to the same period in previous years, the increase in weight and cost was 1317% and 724% respectively. Iran began exporting wheat in 2017, when it sent the first shipment to neighboring Oman. This delivery contained 9,630 tons of grain. Over the past two years, the state has completely covered the needs for wheat by developing its own capacities. In the import only grain needs to be processed for flour. To this end, Iran has established relations with Russia and Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Agricultural Policy of Kazakhstan speaks about preliminary estimates of 1 million tons over the next five years.

What do the numbers say?

Despite the fact that Iran has intensified its activity in the export market, FAO's previously published report reports a yield forecast of 12 million tons for 2018. This indicates a total decrease in harvest by 11.1% compared to 2017. For evaluation, we would like to inform you that the productivity of Iran's sown areas in 2016 was 11.1 million tons.
