In the first half of February, agrometeorological conditions were quite satisfactory for the wintering of winter crops. Winter crops were at rest, but in the southern regions their vegetation was renewed. These data were reported from UkrAgroConsult.
In the east and west, winter crops were snow-covered. The snow layer was 12-15 centimeters and prevented the penetration of low temperatures deep into the soil during frosty days. But if the thawed ground and the thick layer of snow continue to hold on to the surface, then this can cause blistering and the appearance of snow mold.
Since the vegetation stopped, thaws that lasted from 7 to 17 days began to be observed. What can lead to the depletion of crops and reduce resistance to unfavorable conditions.
